This is Yu Yamamoto from the TAILORS WORLD editorial team. Thank you, as always, for your continued patronage.

Yamamoto & Co., Ltd., the company that operates this site, began handling face fabrics (outer suiting and jacketing materials) in earnest back in 2020. Since then, as more and more tailors have come to know us, the number of orders we receive has grown steadily — and for that, we are truly grateful.

What many people may not yet realize, however, is that we handle far more than the orthodox suiting and jacketing fabrics. Through ApparelX — the B2B apparel-materials site operated by our group company, Okura Shoji Co., Ltd. — you can order a wide variety of fabrics for all sorts of uses. In this article, I would like to introduce, all in one place, 15 of the non-wool face fabrics that our tailor customers have actually been buying over the past year: stretch materials, denim, cooling-touch fabrics, and more!! I hope this opens up some new possibilities for your creations.

No. 1  LM695 — High-Twist Twill Jersey

A wool-and-polyester blend knitted on a high-gauge machine in a double-twill construction, then given a composite finish. The result is a fabric with a smooth hand and an attractive sheen, complete with an anti-static treatment for easy, comfortable wear.

No. 2  26233 — Yarn-Dyed 16s Cotton Viyella Ombré Check

A yarn-dyed 16s cotton viyella featuring a bold, large-scale check. A brushed (napped) surface gives it a soft touch, while the ombré (graduated) dyeing lends real depth to the pattern. Ideal for casual jackets and shirts.

No. 3  MT15000 — Linen-Look Stretch

A fabric with the appearance of pure linen and a refined, elegant color expression. It offers a dry, supple hand together with two-way (bidirectional) stretch, making it a popular choice for unlined jersey suits.

No. 4  AW34087 — Stretch Twill (Rayon Blend)

An urbane, sophisticated twill woven with a high proportion of viscose (rayon) yarn. It stretches in every direction — 360°, both warp and weft — and combines a smooth touch against the skin, a natural luster, and a pliant, comfortable elasticity.

No. 5  SW4000 — Cool Sensor

A fabric with a distinctly cool, chilly touch. Because the cooling comes from the inherent properties of the yarn itself, the sensation lasts, and the fabric can be washed at home. With stretch, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying performance, it is well suited to golf trousers and casual shirts.

No. 6  63018T — GX Jersey Ponte

A ponte-di-roma knit developed for jersey suits. It has a pleasant, moderate body, an excellent “kickback” (recovery) that helps garments hold their shape, and a refined matte appearance.

No. 7  COD7S — 11.3oz Natural Stretch Denim

An 11.3oz stretch denim in a 7×10 (70D) construction, with a natural, uneven slub character. Its comfortable stretch makes it a natural fit for casual trousers.

No. 8  OA2910 — 25/1×25/1 JAPAN LINEN Heavy Oxford

A heavy oxford woven with 25/1 linen yarn in both warp and weft, and planned, sewn, dyed, and finished entirely in Japan. Although it uses a thick yarn count, a special pounding-and-softening finish gives it a supple hand. Versatile enough for shirts, trousers, and a range of other applications.

No. 9  COD7245-SF — 13.5oz Color Denim

A 13.5oz color denim developed by carefully studying past references to strike the ideal balance of color, slub yarn, yarn selection, and weave density. Finished with sulfur rope dyeing, it is perfect for casual trousers.

No. 10  WK1003 — GX Jersey Twill (No. 2)

Another knit for jersey suits, this time with a distinctive twill diagonal. Different-colored warp and weft yarns give it a denim-like expression. It offers outstanding kickback (recovery) and excellent resistance to wrinkling.

No. 11  KKF1166-52 — Taslan Twill, Wide Width

A full-bodied twill woven from Taslan-processed yarn, offering a natural touch together with easy-care convenience. It uses SOLOTEX® (Teijin Frontier) and comes in a rich range of colors — a great option for casual trousers and lightweight coats.

No. 12  VH20012 — Heat-Generating, Moisture-Retaining Tweed-Look Kersey

A new material with a mixed, tweed-like look, made with a heat-generating, heat-retaining fiber that converts absorbed moisture into warmth while releasing any excess humidity. With stretch and a satisfying body, it is ideally suited to the autumn and winter seasons.

No. 13  KS27407 — Cooling-Touch Heather Stretch

A heather-look synthetic fabric made with Toray’s CoolMotion®. It delivers a cool touch and strong water-absorbing, quick-drying performance, drawing heat away from the skin for a genuine contact-cooling effect. A spring/summer long-seller with a consistently high repeat-order rate.

No. 14  COD2989-03 — 5oz Vintage Chambray

A 100% cotton chambray in a light 5oz weight, with a lovely vintage character. A relaxed, easygoing choice for casual trousers.

No. 15  80100 — T/C 45s Broadcloth

A plain-weave broadcloth blending Tencel and cotton, woven at double warp density for a smooth luster — and the finer the count, the more that luster shines. Offered in unusual shades such as brown and green tones, it makes for a distinctive dress shirt.
